Prejean, AWOL

So, Miss California famously stated during the contest that she felt marriage should be between a man and a woman only. It's hardly an uncommon belief and she answered as she did knowing it would probably cost her the big crown. But now she seems to be skipping out on the jobs that go with the smaller one, and not answering calls about her AWOL tendencies.

But it seems rather flaky to me that having risen to a high profile by winning this contest she is ignoring the attached duties to go and be an anti-gay-marriage advocate. I mean, what kind of moral weight can she put behind her position?

“I’m going to do whatever it takes … to protect marriage,” the lady is quoted as saying. Because nothing speaks to how sacred and important the marriage contract issue than totally ignoring a contract with her employers, avoiding their calls and running away from the attached duties without so much as an explanation.

Quoted for Awesomeness:
"If we have reached a point in the development of our society, where a beauty pageant contestant is disqualified for believing that marriage should be restricted to a union between a man and a woman, then shouldn't the President of the United States get the same treatment?" It is so sad that she had to give up the crown simply for being honest.

She didn't have to give up her crown really, she has the Miss California crown and just hasn't turned up for work.

She failed to win the USA crown which is more a matter of not choosing to align with the brand. Plenty of out athletes etc have been living with the reality of not getting sponsorships and am am sure there have been lesbian beauty queen who knew they needed to stay quiet to win. This is just the other side of that coin.

No woman deserves to be called the B word because she gave an honest opinion to a question. We all have our opinions, and somewhere along the way they are going to conflict with the views of others. But her answer was given without flaming or smugness or hint of prejudice; it was her personal opinion and nothing else.
At the same time, let's not forget, the gal who won Miss USA was as every bit as lovely and worthy. To suggest that lady didn't deserve to win isn't fair either.

About the contracts thing yes I think Miss Prejean should fulfill them. But if she just wanted time off I'd understand because it does appear she's been made the focus of at least one man's obsessional hate. Perez Hilton is nothing more than a tabloid monger and celebrity stalker; I'd understand Prejean feeling the need to keep a low profile until his obsession simmers down.

Miss California and moral weight? Perhaps that is the problem ... beauty queens are always trying to lose weight.

I'm guessing that the main reason she has gone to ground is the negative attacks on her.

It seems that our basic freedoms (Speech) are being stripped away. She is entitled to her own opinions, and expressed them tactfully. It's a shame that this has become such a negative incident!

As a private individual she can have any opinion she likes, but as "Miss California" she represents the entire state--and as such should probably have equivocated.

First of all, I don't care for Perez Hilton and he has really seemed to gone on a witch hunt after Ms. California.

She gave her opinion and he called her a lot of nasty names because of it.

At least her answer made sense unlike the last beauty pageant contestant(can't remember her name but the one who was just throwing country names around) that was making the news a lot.

As much as I dont agree with her saying that about marriage, I dont blame her for hiding from her empolyers. Im sure celebrity life can be hard.
