Librarian Erotica, Who Knew?

Librarians, as a profession, have a rather strange and conflicted reputation. One aspect of it is perfect primness and propriety.  And it seems that where ever such a reputation exists, it results in pornography.  There is a list of 49 hardcore pornography novels about librarians here that is strangely fascinating. Another ten (including one more) are reviewed here.  And there are two more examples mentioned here--bringing the total to 52.

So called "sleaze" paperback like these tend to go uncatalogued and were not printed on good quality paper. As such many titles are impossible to find and at the end of their life-span as physical objects. I certainly do not need to start a new collection, but if anyone out there is so included, here are the titles you would be looking for. 

I also added some more modern examples and reprints (links to Amazon). This leaves us with a listed of 61!  And I am sure I have missed more than a few.

Classic Covers:

Mrs. Love's psychiatrist was only mildly concerned about her lack of eye contact.

Classic Covers: Waiting for Willy

Today's classic cover is a subtle little number from Avon, circa 1951. Of course any erotic meaning you take from the title is entirely down to you. "Willy" is actually the name of the lady and she has to sleep in that contorted pose to stop her makeup from ruining the pillow covers.

Creative choice of character name is also apparent with the heroine's mother, Tennessee--not to mention a male character apparently called Homerette and another called Red White. Not to mention Tom Kitty and Fuzz. Oh well.

As is always the case, the content of the book are not nearly as interesting as the cover suggests.

'Sploitation

I generally rather like 'sleaze' paperbacks. They are cheap vintage yellowback books generally with gratuitous sex and violence, but honestly the story itself is generally pretty readable. But every now and again I strike one that is a bit much.

I mean... 'splotation, let me count the ways. We have the sexy (underage) girl, blacksploitation, rape reference, other violence and a whopping dose of moral panic related to young black men. I may be judging a book by it's cover, but I skimmed the first chapter and honestly I am not even trying to slog through this one. It seems to be 75% pure untagged dialogue and first person to boot, and that's before our lovely protagonist gets to taking girls "by force".

So sue me I am not going to try too hard to get into a book that serves up 140 pages of nasty wish fufillent with half a page of just deserts to make it all right. I actually think people should be able to indulge any fantasies they like--but I can't palate combining it with smug disdain at the same time.
